Beds24

Founded: 2007, Ireland Positioning: powerful and flexible PMS aimed at managers who want full control. Users: over 20,000 active accounts. Philosophy: maximum flexibility and automation. If you can imagine it, you can probably configure it.

Beds24 is the PMS used by managers who have outgrown Smoobu's limitations or who need complex automations. Its interface is not pretty, the learning curve is steep, but its power is hard to match in its price range.

Integration verdict

Beds24 wins by a landslide. If you plan to build a direct booking website connected to your PMS, or any technical integration, Beds24 is the superior option. Its API is complete, well-documented, and accessible from the most basic plan. With Smoobu, the API is a paid add-on with fewer capabilities.

Channel Manager

Smoobu

Supported channels: Airbnb, Booking.com, VRBO/HomeAway, Expedia, Google Vacation Rentals, TripAdvisor, Agoda, and about 15 more.

Synchronization: bidirectional, real-time for Airbnb and Booking (direct API). Other channels via iCal with 15-30 minute intervals.

Setup: simple. Connecting Airbnb takes 5 minutes. Booking.com requires Booking verification, but the guided process is clear.

Both PMS platforms include a booking website that you can use with your own domain. Both are functional. And both are insufficient if you want to seriously compete with the OTAs.

• Limited customization: colors, logo, texts. You cannot change the structure.
• No blog.
• Basic SEO: you can edit titles and meta descriptions, but you have no control over URL structure and cannot add Schema markup.
• Loading speed: acceptable (LCP ~3.2 seconds on mobile in our tests).
• Multi-language: yes, automatic based on browser language.
• Booking engine: functional, 3-step process.

Beds24 Web

• Functional but outdated design. Aesthetics are not its strong point.
• Greater customization: you can inject custom CSS and JavaScript.
• No blog (but you can link to an external blog).
• SEO: more technical options (you can edit the header HTML), but requires technical knowledge.
• Loading speed: variable (LCP ~3.8 seconds on mobile).

Booking website verdict

Smoobu wins on design and user experience. Its website is more attractive to guests without any effort. Beds24 wins on advanced features (coupons, extras, CSS customization), but requires more work to look professional.

Our honest opinion: neither is sufficient for a serious direct channel. Both serve as a starting point, but if you want to compete with the OTAs on SEO and conversion, you need your own website connected to the PMS via API.

Support and community

Smoobu

The special case: starting with Smoobu and migrating to Beds24
